Odyssey
A bigger version of Chord Rumour. The materials and the design are identical but Odyssey uses a heavier gauge 12 AWG conductor. It is an extremely affordable, high end speaker cable. Good enough to win the Hi-fi News Award for Best Speaker Cable five years in a row. Ideal for floor standing and difficult to drive loudspeakers where the heavier gauge conductors bring control and definition. Particularly good at dealing with systems where the bass requires an extra degree of control. Like Rumour, Odyssey has remained unchanged and part of our product range since 1998 when it was introduced.
Conductor: Silver plated OFC

“I couldn’t believe what I had been missing, Odyssey brought my system and my music to life.“
The most popular and the most compatible speaker cable we produce, Odyssey lives happily in budget, mid and reference systems alike. Whatever system you use Odyssey with, you can be sure that dynamics are carried well and that instruments have a weight and reality to them. Cymbals are noticeably more realistic and acoustic guitars and pianos more lifelike; this ability to carry dynamic information so well means that Odyssey produces a remarkably musical and coherent sound. Good enough in fact to win the Hi-fi News Best Speaker Cable award for five years in a row.
Each set of conductors is made up of 19 strands of silver-plated oxygen free copper surrounded by PTFE insulation. These are heavier conductors than the ones in Rumour and it’s these that give everything (voices, drums, guitars and acoustic instruments) a certain weight and rightness.
Whatever the system and whatever the speakers, Odyssey is a must try speaker cable.
Listen to Odyssey with: Ryan Adams “Wonder Wall” from the album “Love is Hell”
Hear: A great acoustic version of a classic Oasis song.
Listen for: the little squeaks and squeals that come from playing a guitar with new guitar strings, beautifully bright but just a bit noisy.

Odyssey has all the performance characteristics of high end speaker cable. It will bring big improvements to dynamics and definition, and bass in particular gains control and definition.
The really interesting thing about Odyssey though is the way it will dramatically improve almost any system it has been used in. It is as easy to hear the improvements in a simple setup with small loudspeakers as it is in a high end system with floor standing speakers.
Material technology is constantly developing and improving and alternatives to PTFE are now available. While the high cost of Taylon® prevents us from using this in all of our ranges, another insulator – XLPE (Cross-linked Polyethylene) came to our attention. One particular version of this material proved to be clearly better than PTFE, so Odyssey X was born.
The conductors used in Odyssey X are also found in Chord Epic and Epic XL speaker cables.
If you’re considering Odyssey X you should also have a listen to the similarly priced Chord Shawline X.
