The Dynaudio Contour 20 Black Edition represents the pinnacle of over 40 years of Danish loudspeaker innovation. Based on the award-winning Contour 20i, this version takes performance to an entirely new level, with every component refined, every surface deepened into black, and every detail elevated for sonic and visual excellence.
A Legacy reinvented
Dynaudio engineers thrive on pushing boundaries. While the Contour 20i already delivered exceptional performance, the Black Edition gave the team a chance to go even further. By upgrading every critical part and embracing a stealthy, bold aesthetic, they created a speaker that not only sounds better, but looks incredible in any setting.
What’s new in the Black Edition?
- Upgraded Esotar 3 Tweeter: Taken directly from the Confidence series, it includes a precision soft dome, Hexis inner dome, and neodymium magnet system for smooth, detailed highs.
- Advanced woofer design: A powerful neodymium-enhanced motor with improved voice coil geometry increases efficiency, reduces distortion, and extends bass response.
- New crossover network: With premium Mundorf capacitors, resistors, and air-core inductors, the redesigned crossover ensures greater clarity and phase accuracy.
- Refined bass port: A newly designed, flared port reduces turbulence and enhances low-frequency precision for a more immersive experience.
- All-black finish: Everything from the cabinet to the driver hardware has been coated in deep black, creating a look as refined as the sound.
Signature driver technologies
At the heart of the Black Edition are two meticulously crafted drivers. First, the Esotar 3 tweeter offers stunning detail and natural tonality, aided by its Hexis inner dome that smooths airflow and eliminates resonance. Second, the 18cm MSP mid/bass driver brings a sense of weight and agility, with improved airflow and sensitivity thanks to a compact yet powerful magnet system.
Engineered for performance
- One-piece MSP cone: Offers rigidity and damping, resulting in tight, responsive midrange and bass.
- Glass-fiber voice coil former: Reduces eddy currents and enhances clarity and precision.
- Optimized cabinet geometry: Curved MDF panels minimize standing waves, while the aluminum baffle increases rigidity and driver stability.
Custom-built for audio purists
Dynaudio didn’t just tweak the components, they reimagined the entire crossover from scratch. Using fewer parts of higher quality, the result is a more direct signal path with minimal coloration. The speaker’s dispersion is also tightly controlled, making it easier to position in a wide range of rooms.
Aesthetics meet acoustics
- Fully blacked-out design: The cabinet, driver housings, port, baffle, and hardware all feature a deep, satin black finish that adds elegance and visual cohesion.
- Crafted in Denmark: Built at Dynaudio’s headquarters in Skanderborg, each pair of speakers reflects the brand’s commitment to craftsmanship and sonic purity.
