Contour 30 steps it up a notch from the 20. Of course, it still treads the same path – one of honesty, transparency, and sheer entertainment, but it puts it all in a bigger package.

Advanced Tweeter Technology: The Esotar 2i

Like the rest of the new Contour i family, the 30i is equipped with the all-new Esotar 2i tweeter. This new tweeter comes with the Hexis inner dome found throughout our flagship Confidence range and the Core series of professional studio reference monitors. The Esotar 2i also features a new, larger rear chamber. Together with Hexis, these upgrades help to reduce unwanted resonances and smooth out the frequency response for even clearer, sweeter high-frequencies.

Improved Drivers for Superior Performance

We’ve endowed the Contour 30i with two 18cm MSP drivers, doubling up on the rear ports for improved bass performance. Behind the scenes, we’ve refined the spider suspension (the springy ring that keeps the woofer in the right place when it’s at rest, and controls it when it’s moving). This new suspension is made from aramid fibers and retains the structural properties that allow even finer control over the cone’s excursion.

Contour 30i continues to use aluminium voice-coils, which are extremely light yet large enough to provide more control over the cone movement. This leads to better performance, especially at high frequencies and high volumes. After experimenting with smaller voice-coils, we found that larger ones provided better sound quality, and our ears were right!

Simplified Crossover for Cleaner Sound

As with the Contour 20i, the flatter frequency response from the improved tweeter and mid/bass drivers has allowed us to simplify the crossover. The improved crossover no longer requires impedance correction circuitry, as the performance is now optimized directly by the driver. This results in fewer components, a cleaner signal path, and better overall performance.
