Since its founding in 1978, Dynavector has stood at the forefront of high-end audio innovation. With decades of engineering expertise, the brand has consistently delivered cutting-edge phono cartridges rooted in solid academic theory, an approach championed by the founder, Dr. Noboru Tominari.
Engineered for sonic excellence
Beginning in the 1990s, Dynavector pioneered advanced vibration systems. These included ultra-fine wire high-output coils and gemstone cantilevers, technologies that elevated audio playback quality. However, the primary focus has always remained on one critical component: the magnetic circuit. In response, they introduced patented solutions such as Flux Damper and Softened Magnetism, which work together to stabilize and enhance the magnetic environment of our cartridges.
Breakthrough: enhanced magnetic circuit
By refining the physical structure of the magnetic circuits, the sound elevated in clarity, depth, and accuracy to unprecedented levels. This breakthrough wasn’t a minor tweak, it was a transformation that redefined what a phono cartridge could deliver.
Special annealing magnetic circuit
While a high-quality vibration system is vital, the magnetic circuit plays an equally essential role. Sound begins when the vibration system moves within a magnetic field, creating an electric signal. Therefore, for the output to be clean and accurate, the magnetic flux must remain dense and stable throughout playback.
Pure iron is used due to its exceptional magnetic permeability. However, when metal parts are machined, their internal crystal structure gets distorted, reducing permeability. That’s where magnetic annealing comes in. This precise heating and cooling process restores the metal’s original structure, reviving its full magnetic properties.
Importantly, Dynavector didn’t settle for standard annealing methods. Instead, they developed a tailored process that accounts for part shape, material, and thermal behavior. As a result, the custom magnetic annealing enhances every unit’s performance, ensuring consistent, distortion-free playback.
Why magnetic annealing matters
- Restores magnetic permeability by realigning the crystal structure.
- Improves magnetic stability, resulting in smoother sound.
- Enables maximum performance from pure iron components.
Key features of the DV-XX2A
1. Alnico Magnet with Flux Damping
The XX-2A features Alnico magnets known for their low magnetic resistance and smooth output. These magnets minimize flux fluctuations that typically degrade sound when using more powerful, rare-earth magnets. Furthermore, their patented Flux Damping technology stabilizes the magnetic field in the air gap, improving clarity and ensuring sound that remains true to the original recording.
2. High-rigidity magnetic circuit
To maintain structural integrity and sonic precision, they use stainless bolts to join the front and rear yokes. Expert technicians carefully adjust the torque of each bolt during assembly. This attention to detail ensures high rigidity and consistency across every cartridge produced.
3. Low-output MC design
With an output voltage of 0.28mV, the XX-2A aligns with industry standards for moving coil cartridges. It pairs seamlessly with a wide range of step-up transformers and phono stages, such as the SUP-200. Additionally, its 30-ohm recommended load impedance ensures flexible system matching, even with 47k ohm phono stage inputs.
4. Universal compliance
Thanks to a compliance rating of 10mm/N and a weight of 8.9g, the XX-2A works well with most tonearms, from light to medium mass.It is recommended pairing it with a lightweight headshell to maximize tracking performance.
5. Solid boron cantilever & PF stylus
A 6mm solid boron cantilever supports the PathFinder (PF) line contact stylus, forming a rigid and ultra-responsive vibration system. Together, they deliver exceptional tracking accuracy, revealing detail and nuance that often go unnoticed with lesser cartridges.
