Inspired by one of the world’s great peaks

Named after Mount Makalu, the world’s fifth-highest mountain, the Summit Makalu reflects strength, stability, and refinement. Likewise, its design focuses on delivering a wide soundstage, realistic dynamics, and unwavering control, even at high listening levels.

Advanced three-way driver system

High frequencies come from JBL’s patented 3-inch dual-diaphragm, dual-motor compression driver, paired with a large-format HDI™ Sonoglass® horn. Consequently, treble remains smooth, detailed, and effortless, even during complex musical passages.

The foundation of the sound relies on an 8-inch mid-bass driver and a powerful 12-inch woofer. Both use Hybrid Carbon Cellulose Composite (HC4) cones, which balance stiffness and low mass. Therefore, bass reaches deep with authority, while the midrange stays clean and articulate.

MultiCap™ crossover for precision and dynamics

The MultiCap™ crossover controls signal distribution with exceptional accuracy. By using many smaller capacitors instead of a few large ones, it lowers energy loss and distortion. As a result, dynamics improve and musical detail remains intact at all volumes.

Rigid cabinet with refined isolation

The curved cabinet walls feature heavy internal bracing and damping to reduce standing waves. This design keeps the enclosure quiet and focused, even under demanding conditions. In addition, luxurious finishes enhance visual appeal without distracting from performance.

IsoAcoustics™ isolation for superior control

Custom JBL | IsoAcoustics™ feet decouple the speaker from the floor. Consequently, bass tightens, imaging sharpens, and the soundstage gains depth and stability.
