Leben CS-60T Step-Up Transformer
The Leben CS-60T Step-Up Transformer unlocks the full potential of low-output moving-coil cartridges with the same uncompromising craftsmanship that defines every Leben component. Built around custom-designed Permalloy-core transformers made in Japan, it preserves delicate analogue signals before they reach your phono stage, delivering greater musicality, openness and natural tonal balance.
Rather than relying on unnecessary switching circuits, the CS-60T follows a simple philosophy: protect the signal by keeping its path as pure as possible.
Built for Pure Moving-Coil Performance
A moving-coil cartridge generates an extremely low-level signal, so every connection and every material matter. The Leben CS-60T provides 25 dB of passive gain while avoiding the noise and colouration that can accompany active amplification.
Moreover, Leben’s direct connection design removes unnecessary contact points. As a result, the signal travels through the transformer with exceptional purity.
Japanese Engineering Without Compromise
At the heart of the CS-60T are custom Permalloy-core transformers, designed and manufactured in Japan. Leben pairs these transformers with the thickest possible winding wire relative to the core size, helping preserve signal integrity across an exceptionally wide frequency range.
The internal construction reflects the same attention to detail. Instead of placing both channels inside a single enclosure, Leben isolates the left and right transformers within a 1kg aluminium block. It then surrounds this assembly with a 2mm steel chassis and a 10mm aluminium base, creating a highly effective barrier against external interference.
Crafted for Silence and Stability
Leben carefully considered mechanical resonance alongside electrical performance. The natural walnut side panels help reduce metallic resonance, while Zelkova serrata wooden insulators, a timber traditionally used for Japanese drums and temple pillars, support a stable and organic presentation.
Together, these elements create a transformer that feels as refined mechanically as it performs sonically.
Key Features
- Custom Permalloy-core transformers: Designed and manufactured in Japan for exceptional moving-coil performance.
- Direct connection structure: Eliminates toggle-switch contact points that can degrade signal quality.
- Dual-chassis construction: Separate left and right transformer housing improves shielding and channel isolation.
- Heavy-duty enclosure: A 1kg aluminium transformer block sits inside a steel and aluminium chassis for excellent noise protection.
- Natural walnut side panels: Help reduce unwanted mechanical resonance.
- Zelkova wooden insulators: Support a natural presentation with realistic soundstage and musical flow.
Hear More of the Music
The CS-60T focuses on preserving the character of your cartridge rather than changing it. Fine textures become easier to follow, instruments occupy a more convincing space and dynamic shifts feel effortless.
Instead of drawing attention to itself, the transformer allows the qualities of your moving-coil cartridge and phono stage to emerge with greater clarity and coherence.
A Natural Partner for Leben Systems
Although the CS-60T works beautifully with many high-quality MM phono stages, Leben designed it as a particularly natural companion for the company’s own electronics, including the Leben CS-300XO. Together, they create a remarkably cohesive analogue front end built around Japanese craftsmanship and musical refinement.
The finest analogue systems begin with the smallest signals and the Leben CS-60T ensures those signals arrive with exceptional purity and musical integrity.
