The Lejonklou Superkikkin is a remote-controlled analogue stereo preamplifier with two line-level inputs, designed for those who demand musicality above all else. If you are currently using a digital volume control, you owe it to yourself to hear the difference. Superkikkin preserves the life, dynamics, and flow of your music in a way that digital controls simply cannot match.
From Kikkin to Superkikkin
Back in 2008, Lejonklou released the original Kikkin preamplifier. Praised for its musical qualities and robust build, it became a cult favorite and is still sought after on the second-hand market today. However, it had one major limitation: only a single input. After countless requests, the Superkikkin project was born with two clear goals: improve the sound of the original Kikkin and add a second input for more flexibility.
Preserving the magic
During development, Lejonklou experimented with new circuit designs but found that part of Kikkin’s musical magic came from a specific set of film capacitors, some of which went out of production as early as 2008. Fortunately, enough were purchased back then to make exactly 101 units of Superkikkin. By keeping these components in place, the new design retained the original’s musical harmony while tightening up clarity and timing.
Modern refinements
Superkikkin isn’t just a nostalgic remake. It incorporates advances in technology to deliver even cleaner, more precise sound. Borrowing from the Lejonklou Boazu integrated amplifier, the power regulation uses a precise voltage reference circuit that improves musical detail. A redesigned circuit board layout, refined with 15 years of experience, further sharpens performance and musical timing.
Two inputs, zero compromise
Adding a second input was not as simple as copying existing designs. Solid-state switching and mixers from other Lejonklou models did not suit the purity of Superkikkin’s approach. Instead, a carefully chosen high-quality mechanical switch was selected after extensive listening tests. Placed directly next to the input connectors, it avoids the sonic compromise of extra cabling and keeps the musical signal intact. Vinyl and digital enthusiasts alike will find it simple and natural to switch between sources.
Elegant control
Superkikkin is controlled with a minimalist remote that uses only three buttons: volume up, volume down, and mute. The volume has 101 steps, each in 1 dB increments, giving precise control. A quick mute reduces the level by 10 dB for conversations, while a long press silences the system completely. After a few seconds of inactivity, the digital section powers down to reduce interference and improve musical purity.
