The MOON 461 Power Amplifier is built to amplify music with absolute accuracy, high current delivery and exceptional control. As the most powerful model in the Compass Collection, it is engineered for demanding loudspeakers and high-performance systems.

Inspired by MOON’s long tradition of amplifier design, the 461 focuses on transparency, dynamic power and low distortion. The goal is simple: preserve the integrity of the incoming signal and deliver music with clarity, precision and authority.

Designed for Power and Precision

The MOON 461 pairs naturally with the MOON 491 Network Player / Preamplifier. Together, they create the highest-performing system within the Compass Collection. However, the 461 also integrates easily with a wide range of preamplifiers and source components.

Its compact chassis houses a powerful amplifier platform with strong channel separation, high output capability, and impressive composure under demanding conditions. As a result, the 461 delivers both refinement and headroom without compromise.

MOON Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier Technology

At the heart of the 461 is MOON Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier (MDCA) technology. This proprietary Class AB design represents the latest evolution of more than four decades of MOON amplifier research and development.

Unlike traditional feedback-based amplifiers, MDCA works outside the main audio signal path. It compares the input signal to the amplified output in real time. Then, it identifies noise and tiny non-linear errors before injecting a precise correction signal directly into the output stage.

Because this process happens outside the main signal path, distortion drops more efficiently. In addition, output impedance is lowered and damping factor improves. The result is greater clarity, tighter control, lower noise and more natural musical performance.

Dual MOON Hybrid Power Supplies

The 461 uses two proprietary MOON Hybrid Power (MHP) supply modules, with one dedicated supply for each channel. This dual-mono approach ensures stable power delivery and excellent channel isolation.

MHP combines advanced power conversion techniques with ultra-low-noise regulation. A high-performance Power Factor Correction stage converts AC power into a stable high-voltage DC rail. Next, a high-frequency LLC resonant converter delivers efficient energy transfer with reduced losses and lower electromagnetic emissions.

Moreover, the system operates far beyond the audio band. Therefore, it avoids interference with sensitive amplifier circuitry. A regulated linear output stage then provides low noise, low output impedance and excellent transient current delivery.

The result is superior voltage stability, reduced ripple and EMI, and consistent performance across changing loads and mains conditions.

Dual-Mono Architecture & Flexible Operation

The MOON 461 features a low-noise dual-mono architecture. Each channel uses its own dedicated 800 W power supply. Consequently, channel separation remains strong, imaging stays precise and spatial performance remains stable.

The amplifier also adapts easily to different system configurations. With the flip of a switch, users can select between three operating modes.
