The MOON 491 Network Player / Preamplifier combines a network streamer, DAC, preamplifier, phono stage and headphone amplifier in one elegant chassis. Inspired by MOON’s flagship North Collection, it delivers advanced streaming, wide connectivity and high-end sound in a single component.

The MOON 491 brings several core audio functions together in one unit. As a result, your system becomes simpler, cleaner and easier to use. At the same time, the shorter signal path helps maintain excellent signal integrity.

The 491 was designed to pair perfectly with the MOON 461 power amplifier. However, it also integrates easily with many high-performance amplifiers and loudspeaker systems.

Advanced Streaming with MiND 2

At the heart of the 491 is MOON’s proprietary MiND 2 streaming platform. It supports UPnP playback, works as a Roon Ready endpoint, and offers both AirPlay and Bluetooth compatibility.

In addition, the MOON MiND Controller app for iOS and Android gives direct access to popular music services such as Qobuz, TIDAL, Deezer and Spotify. The 491 also supports Qobuz Connect, TIDAL Connect and Spotify Connect for smooth and direct playback.

MOON Hybrid Power Technology

The 491 features MOON Hybrid Power (MHP), a proprietary power supply design. It combines the strengths of traditional linear supplies with the efficiency of modern switch-mode technology.

Moreover, MHP operates far above the audio band. Because of this, it avoids interference with sensitive circuits such as the phono stage. The result is a lower noise floor, stronger dynamics and greater stability.

Dual-Mono DAC Performance

The DAC section uses two ESS 9039Q2M converters in a dual-mono configuration. Together with a precision clock and refined output stage, this design improves channel separation while reducing noise and distortion.

Consequently, the 491 delivers a wider soundstage, more precise imaging, and improved micro-detail. Music sounds natural, spacious and highly engaging. In addition, the DAC section sits on a modular daughterboard to support future upgrades.

Highly Adjustable MM/MC Phono Stage

Vinyl enthusiasts will appreciate the integrated MM/MC phono stage. Unlike basic phono inputs, the 491 allows detailed setup adjustments to match different cartridges and listening preferences.

Versatile Connectivity & Elegant Design

The MOON 491 offers broad connectivity for modern audio systems. Inputs include one RCA line input, one balanced XLR input and one dedicated phono input. Outputs include fixed and variable RCA outputs, variable balanced XLR outputs and a ¼-inch headphone output.

Meanwhile, the large colour display shows volume, album artwork and playback information. MOON’s signature design completes the package, with a black chassis and bead-blasted aluminium side panels in black or silver.
