The Ramar JEWEL is a unique resonance control concept designed to absorb and neutralize unwanted vibrations and mechanical resonances that can interfere with the signal path during vinyl playback. Developed according to Ramar’s philosophy of innovation, quality, and aesthetics, JEWEL combines an unconventional asymmetrical design with precisely engineered vibration control. As a result, it helps create a cleaner, more controlled foundation for accurate and immersive analogue playback.
Asymmetrical design with balanced weight distribution
Unlike conventional record weights and clamps, which typically follow a cylindrical shape, JEWEL introduces a daring asymmetrical design. Its body is precisely milled from solid stainless steel, creating a distinctive appearance while maintaining exceptional mechanical stability. Despite the asymmetrical outer contours, extensive computer simulations were used to achieve a perfectly even distribution of weight.
Ramar’s three-point approach
JEWEL uses a carefully developed three-point approach combining a shaft seal, eight independently suspended brass rods, and a custom Sorbothane damping ring. Together, these elements minimize the contact points between the resonance control system, turntable, and record. Consequently, unwanted mechanical energy and vibrations from both the turntable and the record can be transferred into JEWEL and effectively absorbed and neutralized.
Precision shaft seal
JEWEL connects to the turntable spindle through a specially designed shaft seal. Its elastic coating creates a stable connection while helping prevent unwanted vibrations from being transmitted through the spindle. At the same time, the expandable NBR rubber construction allows JEWEL to accommodate a wide variety of turntables with different spindle dimensions.
NBR, or nitrile butadiene rubber, is an elastomer known for its excellent mechanical properties, high abrasion resistance, and strong tensile strength. A coil spring positioned around the centre hole inside the shaft seal provides additional stabilization of the spindle connection. Therefore, JEWEL remains securely positioned while maintaining effective mechanical isolation.
Eight suspended brass rods
Eight brass rods are independently suspended within the stainless steel body. When JEWEL is placed on a record, the rods gently descend until they make contact with its surface. These rods transmit selected resonances into the body of JEWEL, where the unwanted mechanical energy can be absorbed and eliminated.
Because each rod is independently suspended, it can adapt to variations in record height caused by different label constructions. As a result, the contact surface of the brass rods remains consistent across different records, helping maintain reliable resonance control during playback.
Custom Sorbothane damping ring
In collaboration with Sorbothane Inc., Ramar developed a unique damping ring specifically engineered for JEWEL. Its mass, shape, and damping characteristics were selected according to the requirements of the resonance control system. Consequently, the ring provides balanced absorption of unwanted vibrations and resonances generated by the record and turntable.
Sorbothane is a proprietary viscoelastic polymer that combines properties associated with both elastic solids and viscous materials. It provides shock absorption, vibration isolation, vibration damping, and excellent resilience in a single stable material. Therefore, the custom damping ring delivers effective mechanical energy management while maintaining long-term performance.
Designed packaging with an additional purpose
JEWEL is supplied with Ramar’s Record Stand, which was originally designed to provide additional protection during transportation and storage. By integrating the Record Stand into the packaging concept, Ramar makes the packaging safer while also giving the customer a practical way to store the resonance control system when it is not in use.
