REL Planar PL2

The REL Planar PL2 redefines what is possible from an ultra-thin subwoofer. By using boundary effect coupling, the PL2 works in harmony with the wall behind it to create scale, impact, and low-frequency extension that far exceed its compact dimensions.

Whether mounted directly on the wall or positioned close to it with the optional cart, the PL2 integrates naturally into both music and home cinema systems. As a result, it offers true REL performance without compromising room aesthetics or flexibility.

Deep bass from an ultra-thin design

Traditional subwoofers often require large enclosures and careful positioning to perform at their best. However, the Planar PL2 takes a completely different approach. Its slim cabinet uses the surrounding wall as part of the acoustic system, allowing it to produce powerful, articulate bass while remaining visually unobtrusive.

Exclusive FlatPiston driver technology

At the heart of the PL2 is a newly developed 8-inch FlatPiston driver engineered exclusively for the Planar series. Despite measuring only 80mm in depth, the driver delivers exceptional excursion and control. Consequently, the PL2 reaches down to 27Hz, providing the scale and authority expected from much larger subwoofers.

Boundary-coupled passive radiator

A specially tuned 10-inch long-stroke passive radiator fires towards the wall behind the cabinet. Therefore, the wall itself reinforces low-frequency output and becomes part of the acoustic design. The lightweight paper cone and rigid aluminium centre cap ensure fast, controlled performance with impressive depth and impact.

500 watts of effortless power

The Planar PL2 uses a high-current Pure Class D amplifier rated at 500 watts. In practice, it is capable of delivering even greater output under demanding conditions while remaining efficient and cool-running. As a result, both music and film soundtracks benefit from powerful dynamics and exceptional control.

Fully analogue REL integration

REL continues to employ fully analogue filtering throughout the PL2. By avoiding unnecessary digital processing, the subwoofer preserves timing, tonal balance, and musical coherence. Furthermore, REL’s renowned High Level Connection allows the PL2 to receive the same signal as the main loudspeakers, ensuring seamless integration across the entire system.

For combined music and home cinema installations, dedicated High Level and .1/LFE inputs can operate simultaneously. Consequently, listeners enjoy both natural musical performance and the full impact of cinematic low-frequency effects.

Wireless freedom as standard

Every Planar PL2 includes Airship Direct wireless technology as an integral part of the design. The compact receiver installs discreetly within the cabinet and arrives pre-paired from the factory. Therefore, setup is straightforward and requires no apps, software updates, or complicated configuration procedures.

Designed for modern interiors

Available in black or white lacquer finishes, the PL2 blends effortlessly into contemporary living spaces. In addition, recessed controls, hidden cable routing, and optional hardwood grilles reinforce its clean and elegant appearance. REL’s VIMAR vibration isolation system further reduces unwanted energy transfer to the wall, resulting in tighter and more controlled bass performance.
